sports coach UK welcomes new youth sport strategy

As the lead agency for coaching in the United Kingdom, sports coach UK welcomes the Government’s new Youth Sport Strategy.

Commenting on the launch, sports coach UK Chair Chris Baillieu MBE said: “We’re delighted to see that the Government’s new strategy places such importance on the role of school-club links in creating a sporting habit for life. The strategy explicitly acknowledges the pivotal role played by coaches in ensuring that young people have such positive experiences that their enthusiasm for sport is maintained as they make the transition from school to club. Good coaching is an essential element of successful sport at all levels.

“We have two priorities. We will continue to work with the Governing Bodies of Sport as they develop their new Whole Sport Plans, helping them ensure they can recruit, develop and retain enough coaches with the right skills to focus on the 14-25 age range, and so deliver on their Whole Sport Plans. We will also reinforce our work with the County Sports Partnerships and other partners in ensuring that sports-specific strategies developed by the NGBs are understood, translated and implemented at a local level.”
